Bikers on 'cultural' exchange
Globe trotting conservationists Ollivier Augier and Elsa Marangoni are coming to Maryborough.
TWO French conservationists who have travelled more than 14,000 kilometres around the world to learn about sustainable living are on their way to Maryborough.
Elsa Marangoni and Ollivier Augier have cycled, ridden horses and sailed from continent to continent over the past two years in a bid to meet the people of the world and discover their connection to the environment.
They have opted for low-power methods of transport and chosen to stay at eco-friendly accommodation along the way to minimise their carbon footprint.
So far, they have travelled through parts of Europe, Asia, Indonesia and Australia and plan to visit South America next.
The pair will arrive in town next Tuesday to give a presentation on Wednesday at Gatakers Artspace about their epic journey and what they have learnt from their travels.
It will take them three days to ride from Brisbane to the Heritage City on their custom-made tandem bike and, once in Maryborough, they will stay at Eco Queenslander on Treasure Street.
Cecile Espigole, who runs Maryborough’s French Business Services and Eco Queenslander, said the presentation would have something for anyone interested in travel, communities and cultures, the environment or the French language.
“I’d really like to see some people coming to this free event,” Cecile said.
She admires the passion of the two young travellers and believes their journey is not only inspirational, but brave, as they have ventured through dangerous territories on their vulnerable methods of transport.
Elsa and Ollivier have been speaking to people like farmers and fishermen and exploring protected parks, reserves and biospheres as part of their Vents Nomades tour.
They say one of their aims is to build bridges of dialogue to allow the exchange of knowledge between cultures.
